advertising style

Form

humourous

This advert aimed to make a humorous advert and succeeded as the advert makes the audience feel happy and also laugh which gives out a positive mood to the company and the product. the reason why this advert is humorous rather than serious is because it would make a bigger impact to the audience as it would be hard to forget an advert featuring a grown man in a mosquito costume and annoying people. there are many adverts that covers a serious topic with a  serious tone to the video, however this advert illustrates a serious topic in a amusing way. entertainment is a strong way of advertising specific topics because it engages everyone and this advert uses entertainment in a really good way to send out a message. for example, on 0.10 to 0.11 shows a close up of the man in a mosquito costume making a "buzzing" sound to irritate the employer. what makes this advert different from other adverts in the same area is that this advert entertains the audience to send out a message where are most other adverts would show the causes but also make the audience feel sad and sympathetic to those people who have been affected by mosquitoes. the close up in 0.24 which displays a lady be with a set and serious facial expression shows that people are suffering and are genuinely not cheerful and delighted with the mosquito where as the close up of the man dressed up as a mosquito in 0.25 shows that he is jolly about the situation. this represents that the mosquitoes are upbeat instead of being pessimistic such as the lady.

surreal

A surreal advert is an advertisement of an occasion or a scenario that have never happened before. This advertisement has added fantasy element to it as there are never animals dancing together like in a show. At the start from 0.00 to 0.02 there is a deer on a swing wearing a dress which makes the fantasy element to the advert but also the bear wanting to be with the deer rather than hunting it. The beer sprays some Orangina on the grass on 0.14 and small flower creatures appear from it which adds to the fantasy feel of the advert because the drink can't make life. this advert interests the audience by entertaining them by showing a parade of dancing animals, this adds a fantasy feeling to the advert. oringina is a product that has been shown as being lively and and a stimulative product because of the parade but also exotic because of the backgrounds. it is set in a rain forest with wild animals that are portrayed with human features such as wearing clothes, communicating and also dancing as people do. an example would be in 0.18 when the bear is picking a flower for the deer is on the swing. this builds up as being magical and gives the product a magical feature. the audience would want to purchase the product because of how it was presented in this advert which is that it would give the users cheerful and joyful.

dramatic

A dramatic advertisement uses drama to build up suspense and tension in the advert so that it will catch the eye of the audience. This method is used to keep the audiences’ attention as they would want to know what will happen in the advertisement. This advertisement has added an element of surprise not making the audience know what is happening but also having no one talking throughout the advert leaving the audience wanting to know how it will end. In this advert, there are two men at gunpoint but the criminal then points the gun to the car as it is a hostage and the police drops his gun. This gives out a message that the car is important but also seen as an equal. what makes this advert dramatic is the music that grabs the audience’s attention but also the tone of voices used such as in 0.23 when the police said "drop it" in a serious tone and holding a gun at the same time. There are different elements of the advert that contains dramatic shots in the advert, editing of the video would be one of the main elements because it sets the mood of being serious and formal. Through-out the advert, the majority of it is dark which adds to the serious feeling. Having a police in the advert also makes the advert because the police are not taken as a joke but it also adds on tension because in 0.05 there is a mid-shot of the police with a gun and on 0.13 there is a close up of the police to show his facial expression. his facial expression shows that he is serious, scared and worried about what would happen and because he is holding a gun and he is scared makes the audience want to know what he is scared and worried about which adds intensity. However, through the constant theme of being serious, there is some humour such as when the man points the gun to the car at 0.34 which shows that the care is more valuable because the police officer puts his gun on the ground not wanting him to shoot the car. This advert would remind the audience of other similar movies or scenarios involving hostages and guns

parody

Parodic advertisements imitate topics that are popular to the audience to advertise the company’s product. This advert has done this by advertising a car by having a child acting like his is Darth Vader from star wars. This would grab the attention of children but also with adults because it is a star wars theme but also a car which adults consider on buying. The feeling and mood that the advert gives out is light hearted and also humorous as you see a child trying to use the force to move an object such as in 0.10 when he is trying to use the force on a dog but then on 0.12 there is a close up of the dog having no reaction. This helps gain interests on the product because for the audience that likes Star wars will have a positive view to the product. The younger audience will find it interesting and funny because of how the boy is trying to act like Darth Vader from Star Wars and the older audience will enjoy this advert because of how they could make their child shocked and happy. This advert will appeal more to the older audience and some teenagers, this is because some teenagers would be interested as the advert stars a young child acting like Darth Vader, and an example would be in 0.17 to 0.18 when he tried to use the force on a doll. This advert comes across as bring humorous because the boy is trying to use the force but having no reaction but then finally has a reaction with the car. The reason why star wars fans would enjoy this advert is because of the involvement of a Darth Vader character, he is known for being evil and powerful so this advert shows a Darth Vader character but with no power and being humorous about it.

Case Study of Existing Advertising Campaigns researching gthe role and impact of - Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Ofcom.

What is the background of the ASA?
Commercials started on 1955 and were measured by legislation. Advertising standards authority was set up by the committee of adverting practice (CAP) in 1962 to adjust on complaints that were given about the advertisements. The ASA operated underneath associate freelance chairman United Nations agency was to possess no unconditional interest inside the business.

What is the role of the ASA in the regulation of advertisements?
The ASA is not funded by the government; they are funded by advertisers through associate degree arm’s length arrangement that guarantees the ASA’s independence. ASA regulates with financial advertising, In-store advertising, Political advertising, Credit advertising and advertisements that contains Discrimination on the grounds of race, sexual endorsement, age or disability. The role of ASA is to make sure that each advert is legal, honest and telling the truth to the public. This is done by the audience complaining about specific adverts that are not acceptable to them. ASA works with most types of advertisements that sells or advertises a product such as a radio and TV commercial. ASA is not funded by the government; they are funded by the advertisers through the arrangements that guarantee the ASA's independence.

What is the legal standing of the ASA in relation to Ofcom?
ASA has the power to make a company re-shoot a section of their advert or even upheld it so that the advert will not be shown again to the public. It only takes one person to complain about the advert for ASA to investigate it. The advertisers that break the rules, they are told to either change the specific section of the advert or to remove the advert from each channel that is shown in. however, ASA only has the power to see the complaints and checking the advert whereas Ofcom has the power to keep the commercial on air or to upheld it.

What are the procedures of the organisation?
If someone would want to make a complaint about a certain advert, then they would have to go on the ASA website then go on ruling where it would show links to bring you to adverts that has been complained about before but also adverts with no complaints. There are also links on the side for social networking such as their twitter page, press zone, how to comply with the rules, to sign up so you could be notified and also a link to see how to make a complaint. When a complaint is made, the person complains would be given the name of the person who would handle the case. After, if the complaint is not minor, the ASA council would have to take charge by contacting the complainant, advertiser and if necessary then the broadcaster. The ASA council will then ask both the advertiser and the broadcaster for evidence to see why they thought the ad was appropriate.

What are the key parts of the code governing food and soft drinks advertising and children and advertising that you think will be important to bare in mind for your advert?
I must make sure that the my advert is not misleading in any way as it would make the product look bad to the public but also that the I would have to make sure that the advert does not show any scenes in which includes disrespect, abuse and assault and bad manners that could inspire the audience to do the same. But also the advert should be truthful and honest because if it would not be honest, it would lead to complaints of it showing false information.

6)

This advert is about a story of a child names Dan. the story began by instantly showing a big animated monster as shown at 0.02 and also Dan saying "I used to lash if someone pushed my buttons" which automatically gives a negative feeling towards the advert because of the monster and having the idea of it being vicious and dangerous. The advert goes through hot he was a monster-like person by having a mental condition and his journey to over-come it. the reason why this advert has had complaints are because for people who has that mental condition would feel bad about themselves and also would make them feel insecure which could cause trouble. I think that the advert could have been presented it in a better way than representing a monster as being Dan's anger and frustration and also by making it light hearted as it would not make other people feel bad.

This advert was not upheld but has had complaints and was considered to be impolite. The reason why this advert has had complaints is because throughout the advert, the actors were talking with their mouth full which would be disrespectful show the younger audiences bad manners. An example would be in 0.02 - 0.04 where one of the worker was singing to her friend with her mouth full. Young children are taught not to do this but by singing ender people on TV talking and singing with their mouth full, the children would do the same.

This is a Tango advert where a man drinks a tango at 0.02 but then after there is a "big orange fella" running in 0.09 then slaps the man drinking the Tango on 0.16 to represent how the drink hits you. The reason why this advert was upheld was because the audience, mainly children, was influenced by the advert ad started to do the same. This lead to some children being injured which caused a problem. The advert was upheld for having assault that made some children do the same as the advert.

this is a haribo supermix advert that has been been banned because of unhealthy promoting, but also the girl made refrences such as "but unfortunately, his head fell off"in 0.12 to 0.15 and had a shot of the girl eating eating the man shaped sweet. this sends out the wrong mesages to the younger audience as they would think eating eating unhealthy food is not harmful but also because of what was said in 0.12 to 0.15.
